What to Wear: Activewear for Every Season

The right piece for a warm afternoon is rarely the right piece for a cold morning, and the difference comes down to fabric as much as how many layers are on. This guide covers what to reach for in each season.

Warm weather

Heat and sweat call for the highest moisture-wicking pieces in the range, the nylon and polyester-elastane blends used in leggings, shorts and sports bras. These fabrics pull sweat to the surface to evaporate, so they stay drier than cotton in the same conditions.

Lighter colours also help in direct sun, since darker fabric absorbs more heat. Shorts and short-sleeve tops from Active or Feather cover most warm-weather training and everyday wear.

Cold weather

Cold weather is where the range's cotton-blend pieces earn their place. Jackets and hoodies built with cotton trade some stretch for softness and warmth at rest, which suits low-intensity movement or the time before and after a workout more than a sweaty session.

Jackets are the main cold-weather category, worn over a fitted top or sports bra rather than replacing it.

Layering between seasons

Feather's breathable zip hoodie is the only true outer layer across the Feather, Confident and Active lines, and it is cut to go over a fitted base rather than instead of one. Pairing it with leggings or a sports bra underneath covers the temperature range between a warm day and a cold one, without needing a separate cold-weather wardrobe.

Because it is a zip style, it also works as a layer that comes off mid-session as the body warms up, which a pullover cannot do as easily.

Fabric matters more than layer count

Two people wearing the same number of layers can feel very different temperatures if one is in a moisture-wicking synthetic and the other is in cotton. A single well-chosen piece for the conditions usually beats stacking extra layers in the wrong fabric.
